[the fast 5] questions for outdoor DIVAS community page What inspired you to launch RecoFit? It was sort of an accident! I was a sports editor and an active weekend warrior who was often plagued by shin splints from running. I wanted to prevent them from occurring instead of trying to heal from them. I had tried compression socks already on the market but didn’t find any that I liked – they were too thick, too hot, too uncomfortable, too ugly. So with my husband’s help (he worked in the sportswear industry) we designed a compression sleeve utilizing a cut-andrew pattern instead of a knit sock and used a carbon-based fabric that offers amazing qualities, benefits and comfort. What is your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur? Money! It takes a lot of it to manufacture product, spread the word, hire good people, and keep the lights on. The other challenge…Continue Reading
I’ve often asked myself, what qualities do women look for in their cycling clothing? After pondering this for many hours, I decided that women want high-performance cycling clothes that give them the freedom to bend and twist with ease while riding but that are also stylish and cute. But where could women find cycling clothes that have all three of these qualities: high-performance, comfortable, and cute?? Well ladies, I have finally found the answer!
This blog post is dedicated to all my “on the go” ladies out there! Do you ever feel like your cycling clothes have all the right features but just aren’t cute? Do you wish you could wear your cycling clothes all day and not have to worry about finding time to go home and change into regular clothes before hitting the bars with your gal pals?
[the fast 5] What inspired you to launch Church and State Optics? As a former fashion editor in NYC, I covered the latest trends and happenings in the ready-to-wear and fashion industries. I’m also a natural athlete and total gearhead, so I had been wanting to move to the mountains to try the ski bum lifestyle. It was after I moved to Vail that I realized I could take 2 of my biggest loves, fashion & skiing, to create the perfect brand of style and performance for women who want to be inspired by their gear. What is the significance of the name? Church and State means the fashion and function of the brand, so in order for the line to work, these 2 entities have to get along even though it can be a tricky combination. It’s the politics of style and performance! What keeps you sane, and…Continue Reading
It’s CHACO Season! I just broke out my Chacos and my feet are loving every minute of it! My go-to pair is the ZX2 Yampa. With its double lacing system, this sandal gives a snugly precise fit to any foot, narrow or wide. What makes the Chaco ZX2 such a great choice in the world of sport sandals? Easy! Along with its great lacing system and rugged sole, the back strap makes it the number one choice for river trips of any kind. The laces weave through the actual sole of the sandal, which makes the ZX2 Yampa far superior than other choices, which often use velcro which can become clogged and inefficient with sand and dirt. I’ve knocked my Chacos around for years, and they still stand up to whatever I throw at them. Whether I’m rigging a boat, on the oars, or at camp, my ZX2 Yampa’s are the perfect choice for good dirty fun! I’ve already…Continue Reading
[the fast 5] Questions answered by Sylvia DeLay, owner of Mercuria Running What inspired you to get into running? We both began running in grade school & high school for different reasons and fell in love with it as a sport. Running allows us to clear our heads, socialize with old and new friends, and challenge ourselves. We continue to be inspired to run by finding new adventures and fun races around Colorado–and the world (running on vacation is a great way to find inspiration). What is your favorite way to keep up your energy? Eating and sleeping are key to keeping your energy levels high. We try to eat immediately after long runs and often go out as a group for a social lunch or brunch after our long Sunday runs. If we start to feel a little low on energy, we’ll try…Continue Reading
